Some of the most spectacular views of the Chicago skyline can be had from a boat on Lake Michigan.
Crafty promoters have been using this as a secret weapon to draw music fans to experience live shows, and a pair of them have announced a few shows for this coming July Fourth Weekend.
Otter Presents is becoming well-known for their super-jam type lineups and VIP experiences. Their trip leaves after 1 a.m. on July 4th (technically the 5th) and is called Dead On The Water. I'm not sure about the Dead part, but with this lineup expect some killer funk. Leo Nocentelli of The Meters will be on guitar, Bernie Worrell of P-Funk/Talking on keys, Oteil Burbridge of ARU & Allman Brothers Band holding down the bass, and Disco Biscuit Allen Aucoin on drums.
On Otter trips, things can end up getting pretty loose. Check out the full audio and a video clip from their North Coast After Show below, deemed FiyaWater, which also featured Leo and Oteil, among a host of other guests. The event is 21+ and includes a buffet (?!). Tickets are available at their website.
Chicago's top Dead tribute act Terrapin Flyer has a whole host of activities planned for the weekend, including three boat cruises. Two daytime cruises on the 3rd and 4th are already sold out, but reservations are still being accepted for a ride on the evening of 7/2. All three of the voyages feature JGB keyboardist Melvin Seals and Ratdog guitarist Mark Karan.
This was actually a reschedule of a 7/1 trip originally planned as a co-bill with Helping Phriendly Orchestra, their Phish equivalent. GA tickets are $100 (available here), but if you'd like to check out HPO/TF on dry land, they're hosting the Grateful Phish Phry on 7/1 at Abbey Pub.
As promised, enjoy a little "Yacht Rock" from last August...
